MARKET SQUARE SCULPTURES

Click/Tap the images below for more about each sculpture:

BEACON SILO

Beacon Silo

BEACON SILO is a 12′ tall silo structure that gestures towards the iconic grain silos of southern Ontario. Housed within the silo hangs a large mirrored cylinder that slowly rotates to project columns of coloured light in motion across the surrounding landscape. The installation presents an allegory for the codependence of urban and rural architectures.

GLASS HOUSE

Turn of the century greenhouses were created as a place for winter spectacle, with highly sculpted gardens inspired by the colours and compositions of romantic paintings. The structures themselves were built with new materials made possible through the industrial revolution and explored playful geometries that sculpting with glass and iron allowed. Glasshouse creates a spectacular shadow lamp inspired by these turn of the century greenhouses, the interior is filled with a mobile of shapes drawn from greenhouse architecture and as they rotate in the space they reflect and overlap to create new architectural illusions.

HOPE

HOPE

The HOPE project was created by Dana Osborne, Andrew Mestern and Dona Hrabluk..

HEADLIGHTS

Headlights is a collection of inanimate objects that have found their way to each other. Clothing articles that have been deemed ‘un-sellable’ create unique personas for discarded mannequins. The mannequins adorn once-obsolete lampshades instead of heads and are illuminated by a warm and comforting light like that of your living room. Through upcycling, the collection has a life of its own that is much greater than the sum of its individual parts. The light is a guide by which these personas explore a new life, and once dimmed, they will move on to the next.
